David Michael Wolf was born Sept. 3, 1923, on a farm in Greene County, Iowa. He was the son of David William and Minnie Pearl Michael Wolf. He passed away Nov. 20, 2016.
David attended country school Bristol #1. Upon graduation from the eighth grade in 1938, David farmed with his father and then farmed for his uncle.
On June 9, 1944, David was united in marriage to Lois Jean Stogsdill at Central Christian Church in Jefferson. David and Lois farmed north of Jefferson for more than 40 years. They raised row crops, did custom farming and raised livestock. Upon retirement from the farm they moved into Jefferson in 1981.
David was a member of Central Christian Church in Jefferson. He belonged to the Elks for several years.
He became interested in collecting old barbed wire. David had obtained more than 200 varieties. Much of his time was also spent on gardening in town and on the farm. He enjoyed delivering the bounty from his gardening to family and friends. He received the most enjoyment from giving pumpkins to children, especially the engraved ones he gave to his grandkids. These were personalized with their names on them. He was known for his giant pumpkins and watermelons. He and his wife Lois spent many an hour tending to their rose garden on the farm and in town.
David and Lois traveled to all 50 states and to Europe. They especially enjoyed Switzerland and Germany.
His favorite past times were farming, fishing, gardening, old cars and puzzles. David’s true enjoyment came with spending time with his grandkids. He attended many school and college events.
David, or Dave as many called him, never met a stranger. He could be described as good natured, ornery and always willing to help where needed. After retirement David was found at the local coffee shop almost every day catching up on all the local news. He loved it when people teased him about his bald head, henceforth the nickname Chrome Dome.
David was preceded in death by his sisters Darlene Wolf and infant sister Mary Ann Wolf, parents David and Pearl; his wife Lois, and son-in-law DeWayne Nelson.
He is survived by his two daughters Jane Nelson of Jefferson and Nancy Lally (Ted) of Bagley; brother Dean Wolf (Barb) of Scranton; four grand children, Chris Nelson (Katie), Katie (Ryne) Owen, Laura Nelson and Mark Nelson; and great-grandchildren Nora and Tryce Nelson and Daenan Owen.
